UI/UX Designer

Remote
Full Time
Experienced

The goal at XR Games is to be the best developer of VR titles in the world.

Founded in 2017, XR Games is a multi award-winning virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) game development studio with over 100 members of staff. We make games that provide 3D virtual experiences for players to navigate, explore, and have fun in.

We work closely with Sony Pictures to bring movie licences to life in VR as well as working with the world’s largest publishers and hardware manufacturers such as Meta, PlayStation, Microsoft, and more!

Following the success and critical acclaim of projects such as Zombieland: Headshot Fever, we are now working on multiple high-profile projects with recognisable IP’s & licences as we continue to grow and invest in our future.

The Role

We’re now looking for an experienced UI/UX Designer to join our team. The right person will have significant experience designing UI/UX systems for video games. You will be working on an unannounced VR game with a well-known IP set for release in 2024 before taking on the studios next new project thereafter. This is an opportunity to take lots of ownership for a large area of the game. There are a couple of key things we will be looking for on your portfolio & CV:

  • An excellent understanding of UI and UX principles and good examples of putting these into practice when designing systems for video games.
  • Good examples of systems such as maps, inventories etc. developed for action/FPS games
  • Examples of working on large screen games (console/PC etc.) rather than mobile titles

Your Accountabilities

  • UI/UX Design - You will be trusted to take ownership of multiple important areas and features of UI/UX within a project, ensuring they are delivered to a high standard and on time. You will utilise your excellent design experience to deliver good quality designs that make appropriate use of wireframes, mockups, animations and UI art while ensuring they are implemented correctly within the game engine, and that they are iterated, polished and refined to a high standard.
  • Project Management - You will work with producers to schedule and plan tasks and work. You should be able to manage your own time and workload efficiently and effectively, making sure that all deadlines and deliverables are met while delegating and assigning tasks and projects to more junior members of the team.
  • Client Communication - You may need to attend client calls to discuss design requirements and provide updates on the project's progress. Additionally you may need to present your design work to both internal and external stakeholders. You should be able to articulate your design decisions and provide rationale for your choices. You will need to have strong communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate design concepts.

Are you the right person?

The right person for this role will already have significant experience within game development. You will have experience of a full lifecycle of a game and be much more systems design heavy rather than focusing mostly on UI Art.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong Understanding of UI/UX principles
  • Good understanding of game design principles
  • Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong documentation skills
